Artificial intelligence (AI) is a field of computer science that deals with creating systems that can do tasks that normally require human intelligence. These include things like learning, perception, problem solving, speech recognition and decision making.
AI uses algorithms and models to enable machines to "learn". This is often done through pattern recognition and inference. There are different types of AI, including machine learning, where machines analyse and learn from data, and deep learning, a subset of machine learning that uses neural networks to recognise complex patterns in millions of pieces of data.
Artificial intelligence has a multitude of applications in many different fields. These include healthcare, finance, transport, retail, education and more. AI can be used to predict trends, improve the customer experience, diagnose diseases, automate tasks and much more.
Artificial intelligence, machine learning and deep learning are all related, but they are not the same thing. Artificial intelligence is the broadest term and refers to machines or systems that exhibit human-like intelligence. Machine learning is a method of achieving AI where machines analyse data and learn from it. Deep learning is a specific type of machine learning based on artificial neural networks that can recognise complex patterns in large amounts of data.
Generative AI refers to systems that are able to generate new content or data that is indistinguishable from human data. This type of AI can be used in a variety of areas, including the creation of images, music, speech or text. A well-known example of generative AI is Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), where two AI systems work together in a 'competition' to produce increasingly realistic data.
